MADURAI - (The Athens of East)

Madurai has a rich cultural heritage passed on from the great Tamil period which is more than 2500 years old. It was the capital city for the great Pandya Kings. The Meenakshi Amman temple is the city's main attraction. There are 12 temple towers (Gopurams). The temple Museum is at the Thousand Pillared Hall where each of the 985 pillars are carved in greater detail.
